I was talking to one of my mentors, and he asked me what my greatest strength was. Not expecting what he wanted to say, I started to name my “virtues” like willingness to accept criticism, humble, highly focused, etc, to all which he said, no.
“Your greatest strength is your youth.”
My greatest strength is my youth? That was the first question that came to my mind. Why youth? According to him, youth is an age where you learn best, where you can afford to make mistakes and learn from them, where you’re most carefree, where you have the most time to learn, where miracles can happen.
How many of us do not know that our greatest strength is our youth?
How many of us enjoy letting it slip by us, while we indulge in activities like playing LAN, like shopping and gossiping?
If you are an archer, and you have to shoot arrows, and you begin to shoot… one… two… three… four… five… you keep shooting, but you have no target board to aim, you have no dreams, no goals… what if each arrows represented each year of your life?
Would you feel that you have to be responsible for your life? No one like responsibility, but it’s what we have to take care of. Do you want to be responsible for your life now, while you’re still young or be forced to take responsibility of it when you have a family?
When you have a family, it’s no longer youth that is beside you, what is beside you is your wife, your sons, your daughters, your overflowing bills from cars mortgage, house mortgage, household bills, and more things for you to have a headache upon, compared to then, doesn’t it seem like now is the time to learn and improve? When we come to terms that we have to work for money because we have family to support, how can we think of self-improvement? How can we think of becoming richer? How can we think of financial freedom? It may seem like a wild dream that I’m pursuing now, but ultimately, it would be an even wilder dream if I do so when I have a family to support, how do you feel?
If anything, the best time to start is now, not tomorrow, indulge in company of friends who know what their purpose in life is, start now, not tomorrow for your youth is lesser with every moment you wait.
