Do you want to feel happy 99%of the time and extremely happy 1% of the time?

Quote Adam Khoo’s blog

“In real life, many people do the same thing. We think that it is reaching the end of the rainbow and finding the pot of gold that would make us happy. We think that it is only the day that we make that $1 million or the day we become CEO that we become happy. So we miserably slog through each day or our lives, forgetting & ignoring the beauty of the people and events around us. However, the truth is that the happiness derived from reaching a goal may seem super exciting for a few moments. However, the next thing we know, we must pursue and reach another higher goal in order to feel that short happiness once again.

If you think about it, we spend 99% of the time chasing a goal and 1% of the time achieving it. If you only allow yourself to enjoy and feel happy when you achieve a goal, then you are only happy during 1% of your life. That’s crazy! You allow yourself to feel miserable 99% of the time in order to feel happy 1% of the time.

This show truly reminded me that success is about enjoying and savoring each and every step of the journey; the pleasant times and the bad. The easy and the tough times. I remind myself to enjoy every moment I am on stage speaking, listening to my wife (even when she nags), watching my children play, writing my books, dealing with huge challenges, training my participants and managing my staff. I find that when I truly enjoy each step of the journey that I am truly successful.” end

What a show, put in such a serious yet meaningful way. I have to admit that indeed, that I do suffer from such a thing. Take for example Hoi Ting, occasionally, to reach my goal, I distance myself from her so I can so called “work more efficently”. Peharps I should enjoy the time she takes to finish her meal instead of waiting impatiently. Haha.

But that aside, what do you feel about this post? Does it strike a chord in you? Does it seem familiar? Have you chased after results in studies that you leave your girlfriends alone, your family alone and friends alone? Have you enjoyed that when you made up your mind to get what you want but have to sacrifice these things for it? Have you chased after a game wanting to have fun and be the best player that you neglected your family, neglected all other things waiting for you?

My friends, this post inspires me a lot. It makes me think of things I never thought before, for example, I feel so much to want to change my lifestyle. Currently as I am, I’m doing my best in self-improvement, but have I neglected Hoiting because of it? Have I neglected my friends because of it?

But then again, will I stop short because I enjoy myself and let my momentum die down?

May I first ask you my friends, what is your goal. Please clearly define it in 3 sentence or less. What is your current goal in life? To earn big money? To have a wife and live a carefree life? What is it? Is it meaningful? Like to help others? What is it? Please seriously take a few moment to think.

Have you already started on it? Why do you want to start on it? Why not later, why not earlier? Why now? If given a chance, would you start earlier? Why is it so? If you have started earlier, how would it have benefited you compared to when you started like say now? If you have to maintain this goal, would you stop suddenly because of the faded passion? What would you lose if you just stop short like that? Then comes this question:

What would you give to attain the goal?

What would you use to exchange for it?

Have you answered all your time? Have you thought of fostering better relationships while achieving the goal?

Many a time our passion fades too fast. Many a time, we cannot sustain our passion.

We discover, hey, maybe learning that Japanese is too tough, or maybe it’s just too tiring to slim down by running 10 mins daily…

I cannot know why, but I know one thing. For all people who achieve their goals, they have family and friends behind them supporting them. So let me ask, would you think you could hold on to the passion for a much longer period if your parents like say also tried to pick up Japanese to communicate with you to help you, or let’s say your boyfriend started to run with you every single day without fail in other words, would you have held on to your passion longer if you had so much more support from people around you?

Want to succeed? Very simply, do not forget that your friends and family are beside you, don’t forget that they are there when you’re hotheaded in achieving your goal!

Additionally, I read the comment on adam’s post and this is what I saw from Yeetat:

“Should a happy (enjoyable) moment can turns someone for the better, the time spent to enjoy it is definitely worthwhile. But should someone “indulge” in this joyous moment for too long, his/her future will surely dip. This is because while he/she is still enjoying, others have already gone over it and went on with life.”

Do indulge in what happy things you have in your life, but please do not forget that you should still carry on. With that, I hope this post has inspired you more, to read more, go on and read the adam khoo’s recent post “Adam Sandler’s ‘Click’ reminded me that Success is about enjoying the journey and not about reaching a destination.

I hope you know your goal and I will see you at the top!
