Hope

Human thrives on hope. If there was no fixed goal to anything target, the human will not be able to take it. What we need is a promise, a goal to work towards, something that can keep us in sight of where we want to be, when we're promised returns.

Tell a man he'll be able to find an exit in a maze but don't tell him how to get there and when he'll get there, and he might give up.

Tell a man that he'll get his rewards soon but don't tell him when, and you'll have made him an impatient man.

Tell your workers that you'll defer payments but don't tell him when and you'll make a worker almost ready to go into a strike.

Tell a man what he's promised will come to him within a fixed date and he'll endure and wait till what is his comes to him.

Too many times, we don't seem to get returns; who knows if the stock will ever go up, who knows when the girl will reciprocate, who knows when he'll be able to buy his house. That’s a big one to making a man give up and get desperate.
